Wright Brothers Construction Company Selected by NCDOT to Lead Hurricane Helene Emergency Repairs in Western North Carolina

CHARLESTON, TN — Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. has been selected by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (@ncdot) to lead the emergency repair of critical infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Helene along US 74A, NC 9, and US 64 in Henderson and Rutherford counties. The project, which includes major roadway and bridge reconstruction between Bat Cave and Chimney Rock, will restore vital access to communities severely impacted by the storm.

As the prime contractor, Wright Brothers will oversee the progressive design-build (PDB) project — NCDOT’s first-ever using this innovative delivery method — aimed at accelerating recovery through integrated design and construction. Supporting the project as lead designer is STV (@stv,) a nationally recognized infrastructure design firm. Together, Wright Brothers and STV will work closely to deliver fast, efficient solutions while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Hurricane Helene delivered devastating rainfall and flooding to the region, washing out roadways, damaging or destroying bridges, and cutting off essential connections. The Wright Brothers-led team will reconstruct approximately three miles of damaged roadway, including multiple bridge crossings over the Broad River, to help the community reconnect and recover.

“Being selected to lead this important recovery effort is both an honor and a responsibility our entire team takes seriously,” said Mitchell Simpson, President and COO of Wright Brothers. “Chimney Rock and the surrounding areas were hit hard, and restoring safe, reliable access is essential for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. We are proud to stand with NCDOT and local communities as they rebuild and move forward.”

This project further extends Wright Brothers’ long-standing partnership with NCDOT on many of the state’s most critical infrastructure initiatives. Wright Brothers has been selected for numerous high-profile NCDOT projects, including the I-26 Widening Project and the $1 billion I-26 Expansion Project in Asheville, the US 19 East Expansion in Burnsville, and the Asheboro Bypass Project in Asheboro, among others. This proven track record underscores Wright Brothers’ ability to deliver complex, large-scale projects that keep North Carolina moving.

Wright Brothers has deep experience in heavy civil construction and emergency response across the Southeast and is known for delivering complex projects safely, efficiently, and with urgency when it matters most.
