Randolph County, NC (Asheboro): Southern Bypass & Zoo Connector Design Build (NCDOT)

Wright Brothers was a joint-venture partner with APAC– Thompson Arthur for this 18-mile long highway. This high-profile project needed to accommodate both local traffic and the scores of visitors who come from all over the world to visit the North Carolina Zoo.

To create this aesthetically pleasing, divided four-lane, roadway, 8M CY of excavation, and 785,000 TN of asphalt were used. The project features six interchanges, 23 bridges, 12 culverts, a 1,600-foot long sound barrier and an additional two-mile long Zoo Connector.

The “Gateway Design” will provide locals and travelers alike a safe and welcoming passageway around the City of Asheboro.
