The Anniston Eastern Bypass project is located in Anniston, AL and is owned by the Alabama Department of Transportation. The project consisted of the grading and drainage construction of 2.756 miles of a four lane divided roadway template. The project required 4,313,275 CY of excavation of which 75% had to be drilled and shot. Also 10 box culverts were constructed on the project which consisted of 8,325 CY of concrete and 1,864,000 LBS of reinforcing steel; 10,050 LF of storm drainage was laid on the project from 24 IN to 48 IN in size; and 35,000 TN of rip rap was made from on site material. The project is geographically located at the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains. Due to the project location the steep topography significantly impacted construction operations and sequencing.
