The NCDOT project located in Dillsboro, Jackson County, North Carolina includes a bridge replacement on U.S. 23 over Scott’s Creek in downtown Dillsboro, NC. This bridge connects Sylva and Dillsboro, and is expected to open in the spring of 2021. This project also includes a soil nail wall that was completed in Fall of 2020 that will help with erosion control. When construction began on the replacement of the US23 Business bridge in Jackson County, NC, it was evident that a soil nail wall would be needed for erosion control. Wright Brothers and NCDOT went one step further for the picturesque town of Dillsboro, bringing in a company called Boulderscape Inc.. in to “sculpt” the wall. Boulderscape’s process adds texture, dimension and color, making the wall look like the natural-occurring formations commonly found in the area. The citizens of Dillsboro chose their own custom stain, a mix of grays and blacks, which they felt best represented the natural color of rock in their area.
