Henry/Newton County, GA (Covington): SR 81 Bridge Replacement (GDOT)

This GDOT project involves the demolition of the SR 81 bridge over the South River in Henry and Newton Counties, GA. Crews are currently installing a temporary work bridge and relocating utilities Once the work bridge is complete, our subcontractor Keller North America will mobilize to drill caissons for the new bridge.

The original bridge, which straddles Henry and Newton Counties in Georgia, was originally constructed in 1948 and was no longer up to Georgia Department of Transportation’s design and load specification standards. The replacement plan includes constructing two, 12-foot travel lanes and 10-foot shoulders (four feet paved and six feet unpaved) with rural side ditches. The total length of the project is approximately 0.42 miles.
