The Birchwood Landfill closure project consisted of capping 32 acres with a final cover liner system. Clearing and grubbing, subgrade grading, final cover clay soil layer installation, 1,393,920 sq. ft. of 40 mil LLDPE geomembrane and a double sided geocomposite geosythetic liner system, final cover soil, vegetative layer with permanent seeding, a network of stormwater diversion features, installation of gas collection system with gravity and force main leachate collection lines, installation of 42 gas extraction wells, installation of an emergency electric generator, and upgrades to the existing pump station were all critical construction components of this project.
