The I-20 widening project is located in St. Clair County, AL. The project consisted of 1,144,000 CY of excavation, the reconstruction of there bridges, placement of 8,500 LF of storm drainage ranging in size from 18” to 60”, installation of 1,270 LF of double barrel 6’x6’ precast box culvert, and the construction of 11 MSE retaining walls consisting of 58,500 SF. The excavation on the project is approximately 70% rock. This excavation is located next to the existing travel lanes on I-20. Due to the high traffic volumes the drilling and blasting operations are conducted at night so as to not impede the flow of traffic. The three bridges on the project are founded on 8,000 LF of H-piling, have 10,900 LF of prestress concrete beams, and consist of 4,500 CY of structural concrete. Additionally due to high traffic volumes, ADT of 60,000, a significant amount of our work has to be completed during nighttime hours.
